Death Cab For Cutie’s John Hughes Tribute

The late filmmaker John Hughes, who helmed '80s classics like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science, was given a tribute at the 2010 Critics Choice Awards.

Death Cab For Cutie were among those who honoured him, performing a cover of Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)," which appeared on the soundtrack to The Breakfast Club.

"We are truly proud to help pay tribute to the late John Hughes," bassist Nick Harmer said in a blog post about the band's performance.

"His films were important waypoints for us to use as we navigated the uncertain waters of growing up and even now still give us so much perspective, insight and laughter about those uncomfortable years. We honor him and will continue to celebrate him with our music and through his films for years to come."

Drummer Jason McGerr told MTV News he thought Hughes was "the captain of our youthful revolution" prior to the band's performance. "Every movie he has ever made is ingrained in our brains, and 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' is a song we all fell in love with," McGerr said.
